Description
Location:
The city of Fiuggi is famous for the “Acqua di Fiuggi”, which flows from its natural springs that gush from the nearby mountains of the central Apennines.
The water has been used since the 14th century, when Pope Boniface the 8th claimed his kidney stones had been healed by the mineral waters from the nearby Fiuggi spring.
Two centuries later, the greatest master of Renaissance painting and sculpture, Michelangelo, also extolled the virtues of Fiuggi’s water, which cured him of his kidney stones or, as he called them, “the only kind ofstone I could not love.”
In later centuries, Acqua di Fiuggi was bottled and given as a special gift from the pope’s ambassadors to the various royal courts of Europe.
In Italy, l’Acqua di Fiuggi is still famous for its alleged healing properties.
Owing to its medieval origins, a visit to Fiuggi offers many opportunities for historical, artistic, and cultural enrichment.
From here, one can go to visit attractive medieval sites, such as Subiaco, Anagni, Guarcino, and many other small ancient boroughs.
Fiuggi offers the possibility of highly picturesque hiking and bicycling in localities that are as ancient as they are beautiful.
Finally, it should also be noted that this region of Italy offers unparalleled culinary experiences.
